Medical Device Coating
Microspray International offers a variety ultrasonic spray methods for medical device coatings such as drug eluting stents, drug eluting balloons, guidewires, hypo tubes, catheters, mandrels, etc. Ultrasonic spray technology is a well accepted method for coating small, three dimensional objects with complex structures such as stents. Due to the ultra low flow rate capabilities and the low velocity soft spray characteristics, ultrasonics are an ideal choice when spraying expensive materials such as drugs in a polymer solvent solutions such as Sirolimus (Rapamycin) and Paclitaxel. Additionally, ultrasonic spray coatings can replace traditional dip coating methods for parts such as guidewires, catheters and hypotubes resulting in less waste, improved concentricity and longitudinal uniformity. Additionally, due to the accurate spray pattern characteristics, excellent edge definition can be achieved allowing for the elimination of costly masking on medical devices.
Benefits of Ultrasonic Spray Coating Technology:
- Ultrasonics minimizes product clumping or agglomeration of material.
- Ultrasonic technology does not harm your chemistry by causing excessive exposure to the atmosphere during application, shearing and separation of materials in suspension.
- Ultrasonic vibration eliminates nozzle clogging.
- Maximum uniformity of film thickness and film density.
- Low velocity spray reduces overspray.
- Spray plume can be easily shaped and directed to coat only target area.
- Constructed of medical grade materials, robust design and resistant to wear and corrosion.
Equipment:
We also provide custom systems for coating medical products. We currently offer a Stent Coating system that is semi-automatic for R&D purposes as well as a fully automatic system more ideally suited for production. Unlike many conventional systems, we focus on minimizing operator handling of the stents during the coating process.
